Wish you a very Happy Holi

In the midst of colors, feeling hungry? how about a quick bite? Snacks and quick bites are in heavy demand during Holi get-together. Kids, adults, seniors, everyone loves these ! You can make these well in advance and they stay fresh. Good accompaniment with hot tea. You can courier these to your distant international relatives and friends and watch their face light up with big smiles. You can either deep-fry or bake these.

Enjoy the festival of colors but play safe.

Shakkar para (Baked)


  1. All purpose flour / maida  –  one cup
  2. Ghee  –  two tbsp
  3. Sugar  –  one-fourth cup and two tbsp
  4. Water  –  less than half cup
  5. Salt  –  a pinch
  6. White sesame seeds  –  one and half tbsp
  7. Oil  –  to deep fry


In a pan add water and sugar. Boil until sugar is melted and turn off heat. Remove from heat and cool it (room temperature.In another bowl add flour, salt, sesame seeds and ghee. Mix well. Now make dough with sugar syrup ( not too soft and not too hard) .


Cover it and leave it aside for 15 to 30 mins. On a flat surface roll the dough in to one inch thick and cut in to desired shape.


Deep fry until golden brown or you can bake them.

Pre heat the oven to 350 degree.Layer it on a greased sheet (use ghee to grease), grease top of the shakkar pare.and bake for 20 to 25 mis. Broil it low for less than one min.

Note : Broil is to get golden brown color. During broil, watch the time since they’ll turn black if not taken out at the right time.
