Happy New Year 2015
“Icy winters with warm chocolate cake carrying a slight orange flavour” – what can possibly beat this? The pictures below make it hard to resist the “choco-urge”. The chocolate flavor came out just right in this recipe – not too light and not too strong. I read in a food magazine about using fruit juice, instead of water, for mixing the cake batter. Since orange and chocolate are a well-known combination, I used orange juice and it turned out to be awesome.
The cake was so yummy that half of it was eaten before I could make the glaze and take a picture 🙂
Sit back..relax …indulge in chocolate dessert…welcome the new year !
Ingredients to make chocolate cake
- All purpose flour / maida – three -fourth cup
- Coco powder – three tbsp
- Sugar – half cup
- Salt – a pinch
- Baking soda – half tsp
- Distilled white vinegar – one tsp
- Warm fresh orange juice – half cup and three tbsp (microwave for 20-30 secs)
- Vanilla extract – one tsp
- Oil – four tbsp
Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. Grease the baking pan (I used round pan) and apply little ghee and then use parchment or wax paper to cover the bottom and sides of the pan. Keep it aside.
In a bowl , whisk all-purpose flour, coco powder, sugar, salt and baking soda ( don’t use electric hand mixer). Add warm water, orange juice, vanilla extract, oil and distilled white vinegar. Mix well until well combined.
Pour into a greased pan and bake for around 15 to 20 mins. (exact time depends on the oven)
A tip: Insert a toothpick into the cake and if it comes out clean then the cake is ready.
Ingredients to make chocolate sauce
- Chopped semi sweet chocolate – one-fourth cup
- Fresh cream or milk – two tbsp
- Butter – one tsp
- Fresh orange juice – five tbsp
Cook the chocolate , butter, heavy cream using double boiler method (bowl with water at the bottom and a bowl with ingredients on top). Turnoff the gas and remove from stove. Add orange juice and stir until well mixed. Ready to pour on the cake.
