Fruit phirni in chocolate bowls


Valentine’s day, celebration of love, is nearing. Kids and elders enjoy this special occasion. Yet another time to show your love to the near and dear. Red is the most prominent color – red roses, red heart shaped balloons, red greeting cards etc. I plan to post some valentine recipes during this festive time.

This recipe is a fusion of traditional and contemporary desserts. Phirni is a popular indian dessert. You can express your love with this fun, yummy dessert.

Ingredients

  1. Rice  –  three tblsp (i used sona masoori rice)
  2. Sugar  –   three tblsp (as per your taste)
  3. Milk  –  three-fourth cup
  4. Chocolate  –  to make heart shape bowls
  5. Mixed fruits (pear, kiwi and strawberry)  –  half cup
  6. Chopped almonds  –  two tblsp
  7. Saffron  –  a pinch

Procedure

    Melt the chocolate (i used double broiler method). Stir until smooth. Take chocolate mould, spread one              layer with melted chocolate.

    Set it aside at room temperature or keep it in refrigerator for 5 to 10 mins so that it hardens.

Procedure to make phirni

Soak the rice in water for half an hour and make a paste in mixer. In a sauce pan, add milk and boil it. Once milk starts boiling, add sugar, saffron and rice paste. Keep stirring until it becomes thick. Turn off the heat and let it cool. Now add chopped fruits and almond and gently mix.
