Tomato chutney


  1. Chopped Tomato  – two cups
  2. Ground nuts – one tsp
  3. Urad daal – one tsp
  4. Jeera seeds – one tsp
  5. Mustard seeds  –  half tsp
  6. Green chilli  –  three to four
  7. Coriander leaves  –  one-fourth cup
  8. Tamarind  –  one inch
  9. Salt  –  to taste
  10. Oil  –  two tblsp
  11. Chopped onions  –  four tblsp
  12. Methi seeds  –  one big pinch


In a pan, add one tsp oil, urad daal, jeera seeds (half tsp), ground nuts, green chili, methi seeds. Fry them. Then add chopped tomato. Cover it and cook until tomato’s are soft (10 to 15 mins on medium flame). Turn off heat. Add coriander leaves, one inch tamarind and salt. Cool it. Grind them with very less water. Transfer to a bowl. Prepare tadka with oil (one tsp), jeera seeds (half tsp), mustard seeds and add chopped onions (four tblsp). Fry them. Add to chutney. Mix well. Serve with hot rice, dosa, chapathi, idly………
