Carrot and tomato rasam


  1. Boiled and mashed toor daal  –  one-fourth cup
  2. Boiled carrot  –  one-fourth cup
  3. Boiled tomato  –  one medium
  4. Chopped green chilli  –  one
  5. Pepper powder  –  one-fourth tsp
  6. Oil  –  one tsp
  7. Jeera seeds  –  half tsp
  8. Mustard seeds  –  half tsp
  9. Urad daal  –  half tsp
  10. Curry leaves  –  few
  11. Lime  juice  –  one tsp
  12. Water  –  two cups


In a mixer jar add boiled carrots and tomato. Make a puree.  In a pan prepare tadka with oil, urad daal, mustard seeds, jeera seeds, green chilli and curry leaves. Now add carrot and tomato puree, mashed toor daal, water and pepper powder and salt. Mix well and boil it. Turn off heat, add lime juice and mix well.


Serves three to four.
