Tomato rasam


  1. Tomato  –  two medium sized ( blanch and puree them )
  2. Garlic  –  three cloves ( finely chopped )
  3. Rasam powder  –  one-half tblsp
  4. Salt  –  to taste
  5. Grated jaggery  –  two tblsp
  6. Tamarind paste – half tblsp
  7. Turmeric  –  pinch
  8. Urad daal  –  one-fourth tblsp
  9. Jeera seeds  –  one-fourth tblsp
  10. Mustard seeds  –  one-fourth tblsp
  11. Asoftedia  –  pinch
  12. Curry leaves  –  few
  13. Coriander  –  few
  14. Oil  –  one tblsp
  15. Water  –  two cups


Prepare tadka with urad daal, jeera seeds, mustard seeds, asofetida and oil. Add garlic, tomato puree, turmeric, grated jaggery, rasam powder, tamarind paste, salt and water. Mix well and boil. Garnish with curry leaves, coriander and serve hot.

Note: If the tomatoes are sour then you don’t need to add tamarind paste.
